In the fall of 2009, M. Design was asked to participate in an event to celebrate the opening of the Skid Row Housing Trust’s newest building, The New Carver Apartments. The mission of SRHT is to provide permanent supportive housing to chronically homeless people primarily in the downtown Los Angeles area. Each of the four designers selected was given $1,000 and an apartment to transform into a living space for a resident. The challenge was to create a unique environment using the furnishings that would be provided for every resident—a daybed, a dresser, and table and two chairs. Molly and her team jumped at the chance to help out and were inspired and excited by the building’s amazing architecture by Michael Maltzan.
